What's here
Animals
We have a small selection of farm animals (goats, pigs, chickens and guinea pigs), kept for educational and therapeutic purposes and food production. For now, they’re being cared for by our staff but will soon be looked after by volunteers on therapeutic placements with us.
Playful Barn
Our barn provides a safe indoor place for children to play. It’s open every day 9am to 4pm. The Hay Bale Café is situated in the barn. See the café’s Facebook page for their current opening times.
Market Gardens
Take a wander around the market gardens, which will produce food to be served in the café trailer and go into local veg boxes. Volunteers will help grow crops and learn about food production and gain gardening skills in the process.
Flower Farm
Run by our partner charity, Heart of BS13, the flower farm produces sustainable local blooms, while also offering vocational training and volunteering opportunities to people who have an interest in horticulture and floristry. Cut flowers are often grown abroad and flown to the UK, carrying a hefty carbon footprint. They’re also grown using intensive farming methods that use a lot of water and chemicals, which is very harmful to the environment. Hartcliffe’s flower farm produces beautiful bouquets free from these environmental issues associated with cut flowers. Find out more here.
Composting Project
Based at the flower farm, Heart of Bs13’s composting project and enterprise is improving the soil in our community and reducing climate emissions by turning food waste from local households and businesses into nutritious compost. Find out more here.
What’s on the way?
We have plenty of plans for the future of the farm, including:
- A new playground – the current playground at the farm is not safe to use. Getting a new, safe playground is high on our priority list.
- Spaces to hire – we’re in the process of renovating some of the existing buildings on the farm to be ideal for community classes, workshops and birthday parties
- More animals – we will have a wider range of animals at the farm when we have built more safe and comfortable animal pens.
Opening times
The farmyard is open to visitors on Monday to Sunday from 9am to 4pm.
The farm is free to visit.
