Supported Placements available on Heart of BS13’s flower farm

As part of their mission to tackle health inequalities and using their assets as a resource for the community, Heart of BS13 are excited to offer three new supported placements at their flower farm based here at Hartcliffe City Farm.

Heart of BS13’s supported placements offer opportunities for adults with support needs to learn floristry and horticulture skills. You will be supported by their fantastic team who are experts in horticulture, compost and floristry.

Who are they?

Heart of BS13 Flowers is a social enterprise run by Heart of BS13. Based at Hartcliffe City Farm, they’ve been growing flowers on their sustainable flower farm since 2020, which they sell across Bristol. They also run floristry workshops for the public, community and local businesses.

They are looking for referrals/ introductions to people who may be interested in taking up these supported placements.

Referrals

To refer someone for a placement, please email flowers@heartofbs13.org.uk.

Ideally the people referred will be residents of the BS13 community to help Heart of BS13 with their mission of improving the lives and health of the BS13 community, but if the person grew up in the area but moved away, or they are from just outside this area in South Bristol then do feel free to get in touch with the team.

You will be invited for a tour of the flower farm where you will have the opportunity to ask questions and meet our team. Placements can start as early as a month after the initial referral.

Programme cost

£45 per person for a half day

£80 per person for a full day

What will you learn?

Trainees will develop various knowledge and skills on the farm, including:

  • Practical, hands-on horticulture
  • Sowing seeds and labelling
  • Companion planting and plant identification
  • Pricking out, watering and irrigation
  • Planting and plant care
  • Grounds maintenance (pathways and landscape management)
  • Compost (soil health, carbon reduction and plant tonics)
