Growing season in our market gardens at Hartcliffe and Windmill Hill city farms is well underway and we’re picking our first harvests. The crops will be going into our local veg box scheme for the summer, providing fresh veg, salad and herbs grown without the use of chemicals at our two sites.
Each box will contain 6 different varieties of veg, freshly harvested from our no-dig, wildlife friendly market gardens. The contents of the box will vary each week, please keep an eye on our social media channels for updates. Find us on Facebook & Instagram.
We want our veg to be accessible to everyone, so there is a low-cost box option for those on a low income and options for those who can to pay-it-forward and buy a box for a family who needs one.
The price options are:
Standard £10 – A box for you to enjoy
Solidarity £15 – a box for you to enjoy, plus another box provided free to a family in need
Pay forward £7 – a box for a family in need
Low cost £6 – a box for you if you’re on a low income and can’t afford the standard price
The boxes bought via the pay-it-forward and solidarity options will go to a family in need local to either Windmill hill or Hartcliffe City farms. We have made connections with local foodbanks to get the veg to the right people.
This scheme launched last year at Windmill Hill City Farm, and were able to provide nearly 40 free boxes to people who needed them, thanks to the generosity of others buying the pay-it-forward and solidarity boxes. We’re thrilled to be able to expand the scheme this year with the opening of the market gardens here at Hartcliffe to get more lovely local veg to more lovely local people.
Order your veg box online here by Wednesday 12pm, we pick and pack to order, and you can collect on Thursday, from either Hartcliffe City Farm from 1.30pm, or Windmill Hill City Farm Café after 3pm, or any time Friday and Saturday.
