Community compost tour

Join Heart of BS13 in celebrating Food Waste Action Week which focuses on empowering households and businesses with tools to reduce food waste. In support of this, Heart of BS13 are inviting you to Hartcliffe City Farm to learn about their composting programme, and how it’s improving the environment in and for our community.

Composting is an amazing process, creating healthy soil which is essential for life. And turning our food waste into compost is a simple, easy and effective way of caring for the environment and improving the soil for future generations. Heart of BS13 are confident that after coming on their compost tour, you’ll never want to throw your food waste in the bin again! You can find out more about how they are helping to care for the soil in BS13 here.

What will happen on the tour? Heart of BS13 will take you to see their Ridan composting machine, which allows them to process food waste, before it goes into compost bays. You’ll get to help turn the compost and load it into the bays, check out the bugs and other life in our living soil, and visit the flower farm where the compost ends up.  And there will be plenty of opportunities to ask questions, over tea and biscuits!
