The Hay Bale Café is a community café tucked away inside the Playful Barn at Hartcliffe City Farm. They’re open Mondays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 9am – 4pm, serving Radical Roasters coffee, house-made cakes, family-friendly snacks, plus farm-grown flowers and vegetables. The café is owned and operated by Soph (they/them), working in partnership with Hartcliffe City Farm.

Menu

The café serves a range of house-made cakes, snacks and treats ranging from veggie sausage rolls, soup, brownies, banana bread, pizza sticks and pastries, as well as a full coffee menu, including decaf and non-dairy options. Their coffee is provided by Radical Roasters and they use ingredients grown at the farm wherever possible.

Affordability

The Hay Bale Café runs a “Pay It Forward” scheme where members of our community can buy tokens which can be used by anyone in need to claim a free drink or snack at the café.

If you’d like to use a token, just let Soph know when ordering at the till. You can use a token to cover part or all of your order, and can order anything from the menu – no questions asked.

If you’re in a position to contribute wherever you are, please consider buying our community a coffee online here.

Local regulars can pick up a Locals Card: these work like any other loyalty card (get a free drink with a full stamp card), but are reserved for those living close to the farm.

To maintain and supplement the generally low menu prices, those who wish to contribute something extra can opt to pay the Supporter Price for their coffee at the till.

Opening Hours

The Hay Bale Café is open every Monday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 9am to 4pm. Please follow them on social media for any updates to opening hours or holidays.
